Whether we like it or not, our bodies will appear in different
ways, depending on where we stand. In other words, we can
see the difference of the countries, nations, and culture
by looking at different ways how bodies will appear.
People think that modern drama has been seeking what human
beings should be within the frames(what we call countries,
nations and culture). Therefore, drama has been pointing
out many problems that exist inside of our community. Then
what drama has to do is to describe people, who live in
our community, in a positive or a negative way. Drama has
to let people think what human beings are like.
Nowadays the frames (countries, nations and culture) are
wide changing. Boundary of meaning and value are becoming
vague. We aren't sure what thoughts, tales and words we
can rely on. Just our anxiety is multiplying with a sense
of blockade due to the time. Drama is also involved with
the current of the world.
What drama can do now is to face the reality, isn't it?
I mean, we must keep our eyes on what our community (where
we live) should be and what drama should be . I am not saying
we should create new community or new frame. We should let
our bodies stand in the vague boundary. We need to go back
to the fundament of drama ―human beings look at human beings.
We shouldn't have hope and despair in human beings' behavior.
We need to figure out what we are like by our own words.
I believe we can't live without the frames (countries, nations
and
culture).
I think the frames, including drama, are all illusion that
human beings have created. Needless to say, our bodies in
drama are also illusion.
And the illusion is absolutely necessary for drama as an
equipment for human beings to look at human beings. However
we shouldn't give meaning and value to the illusion in advance.
We shouldn't easily approve and disapprove the illusion.
We have to look at it as it is. I think this is the task
what drama is supposed to do now. Therefore Physical
Theater Festival considers drama as a place where illusionary
bodies will encounter. Its purpose is to think about illusion―that
are born inevitably by the bodies in the vague boundary.
